The Rokkits
Here are some guidelines to help us give you the best possible experience on your special occasion. Most of these are nice to have and few are show-stoppers. Please feel free to discuss any of them with us in good time before the event.
Space - the final frontier
In order to operate to an optimum we need a comfortable amount of space. We suggest that as a minimum guide an area about 8' deep x 15' wide would be ideal but we can often operate in a smaller space within reason – please discuss it with us before the event if this amount of space is not available. Please try and avoid situations where guests have to walk though, or very close to, the band and equipment in order to reach facilities like the bar or the toilets.
Power
We generally need at least 2 x 13 amp mains sockets from the same source / phase (one either side of the “stage” if possible). This can sometimes be a problem in marquee receptions and other “out of doors” functions.
Sound Limiter
Check that your venue does not have a Sound Limiter as this will almost certainly make it impossible for any live band to perform. Vocal mics and snare drums in particular tend to trip these.
Public Liability Insurance
If your venue insists on this we can arrange it for about £55 which we would usually ask you to cover in addition to our fee.
Setting up
Allow a minimum of 60 to 90 minutes for us to set up and sound check our equipment preferably in the absence of any guests. In weddings this is normally done following the meal when the venue 'Strikes' the room and prepares it for the evening activities. The easier the access to the stage area for loading equipment from the vehicles the better.
Changing facilities
We would very much appreciate a room to get changed into stagewear (all members) and do our make-up (NOT the gentlemen). The ladies or gents toilets are not suitable for this. Ideally it should be secure to store clothes and personal effects.
Refreshment
We may have traveled some distance to your function and after unloading and setting up we really appreciate some form of refreshment e.g. tea, coffee or cold drinks – even just water.
Time and effort
Please bear in mind that we will invest far more time into the performance than the actual hours we are on stage. It is not uncommon for each member to invest at least 8 hours into the occasion (including travel, loading, unloading setting up, performing, breaking down etc) much of it of a physical nature. The fees we charge cover travel time and fuel. Remember when you have left the function we may well still be packing down (very often in the early hours). Also remember to book the venue long enough AFTER you event to allow us ample time to do this.
Previewing The Rokkits
You may well ask to see the band before booking us which is totally understandable. You would be most welcome. The problem is that many of our gigs are private functions which may make it difficult for us to invite you to visit. We will, of course, be happy to ask permission for you to attend although, naturally, we cannot guarantee this will be allowed. Please ask us to try and arrange this well in advance. By the same token, please rest assured we will not send clients to your occasion without your explicit permission. Obviously when we are performing at public events (dances and fund-raisers) this will not be an issue.
